Digital Design Organisation of the Year

This category recognises organisations within the AEC industry (including design consultants, contractors and project owners) that implement digital methodologies into the workflow of projects to aid design decisions. Entrants for this category must go beyond using only BIM and instead focus on the design exploration benefits of Virtual Design, Data, Computational Design, (Parametric Design & Generative Design), AI, Design Management Platforms and digital Carbon Tools. As a minimum, entries should demonstrate the use of digital techniques to aid design decisions that add value to the project by way of environmental, social or economic indicators. Examples include, but are not limited to, the creation of rules-based processes within digital design tools and the creation of bespoke tools that allow the assessment of environmental, social or economic factors of the project.
Entries should focus on designs that have been implemented within the last 24 months and demonstrate that a holistic approach is taken towards strategy, planning and management of a digital design approaches. Benefit realisation carries 40% of the score weight and depends on providing clear evidence. Therefore, please give details on the outcomes of a number of projects, such as maximising human wellness, resource efficiency, constructability, and project costs (CapEx/OpEx) along with supporting evidence.

Buro Happold

Buro Happold is known for its comprehensive approach to computational engineering, engaging staff at all levels to embed their technical know-how into reusable computational workflows that can be harnessed by the entire practice.

Having open-sourced much of its code in 2018 through the Buildings and Habitats object Model (BHoM), Buro Happold had a goal that the entire AEC industry would leverage this collective know-how through a series of transdisciplinary toolkits that assist with interoperability, architectural and engineering tasks, and solutions to address problems such as climate change and modern slavery in the built environment.

These digital design efforts have led to the successful delivery of several world-class projects, including SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, The National History Museum, and teamLab Phenomena, among others currently under development.

RBG has been on a formal journey of digital transformation since 2018, when the opportunities and risks facing the business were first identified and a strategy put in place. Saudi Entertainment Ventures

As a company owned by the Public Investment Fund, the goal of creating a new entertainment economy for the long term to transform the happiness of Saudi Arabia is a top priority. The data management team at the Development department leads the effort, employing digital technology and platform-centric design management methodology. This approach enables design and delivery partners to deliver, review, manage, and approve designs for all 22 entertainment complexes across the Kingdom. Through this comprehensive approach, the company aims to create a new standard for entertainment in Saudi Arabia and make a positive impact on the happiness of its people.
