CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY AWARDS

Judges’ shortlist 2024

Digital Project of the Year

The Digital Project of the Year award is designed to recognize the best implementation of digital tools in AEC projects or organizations. The category focuses on projects that have successfully implemented digital tools to optimize business-related processes or tasks. The initiative should have been adopted and operationalized within the last 24 months.

Asset Digitization of King Abdullah financial District using BIM

KAFD

This project aims to develop accurate digital assets data for 47 parcels (91 Towers in complete district) in the KAFD by using BIM (Building information Modelling) to extract COBie data to interface with CAFM (Computer Aided Facility Management System), BMS (Building Management System) for total integrated Zero-defect high efficiency operations and Maintenance.

LiDAR Scanning has been carried out for all buildings in order to achieve the high accuracy data output in the BIM Models. All the parcels are required to develop BIM data up to iLOD 500 to extract COBie (Construction Operation Building Information Exchange) to interface CAFM systems such as IBM- Maximo. Also the BIM Models has been used further to be hosted in Digital Twin platform to achieve the smart city solutions use cases & GIS navigation systems to provide an efficient Operation & maintenance through integrated command center.

Our approach involves leveraging big data to achieve real-time visibility into project data, empowering key stakeholders to proactively address challenges. This ensures the successful delivery of the project, facilitated by the right technology partners and appropriate tools to drive project efficiency and success.

Digital Development - PMIS Implementation

Implementation of Robotic Process Automation

ECC Group

The ECC Digital Transformation is a unique project employed within the ECC after extensive market study on identifying redundant highly resource-consuming jobs to make them more efficient. The construction industry is a ‘resource-intensive’ industry where there is humungous data & operations carried out manually daily.

Implemented with the help of Robotic Process Automation (RPA)- technology that uses software robots or digital workers to automate repetitive, rule-based tasks, the project identified those operations that can be automated thereby achieving the numerous benefits. With significant overall cost saving and efficient time and resource management, the project focused on continuous improvement of Robotic Process Automation.

Rail Infrastructure Maintenance Management System

Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai

The project is a development of a Maintenance Management System for the rail infrastructure assets of Dubai Metro & Tram, including viaducts, tunnels, stations, depots, tracks and car-parking buildings. Through the project, the RTA developed a digital platform (mobile and web applications) along with a prescriptive inspection approach supported by an asset database to provide the RTA with the capability, transparency and structure to efficiently and effectively inspect and maintain the Rail Infrastructure Assets, based on the practices of Reliability Cantered Maintenance and Risk Based Maintenance, in order to maintain safe and sustainable operation of the asset.

The system is integrated with the RTA systems (MMS Maximo and GIS), and it generates asset maintenance reports showing asset conditions, risks, health index and budgeting to support the maintenance plans and decision-making. The project was executed in five stages which includes the development of asset database, maintenance regime, asset field inspection and testing, development of critical modules, software package, and integration with the RTA Enterprise Maximo, plus maintenance of the new generated system for 2 years. The RIMMS system consists of a Mobile Application for off-line field inspections and a Web Application for administrative setup, asset condition analysis, and maintenance needs tracking.

ROSHN Horizon (Enterprise Portfolio Management Information System Powered by AI)

ROSHN Group

The ROSHN Horizon emerged from a strategic initiative to standardise the Roshn Investment Control Process (RICP) framework, ensuring uniformity in processes, procedures, and templates. The driving force behind this digital project was the need to overcome the challenges posed by varied workflows across ROSHN portfolio. The aim was to establish a foundation where Processes and Templates are not just defined but rigorously followed. This commitment to standardisation extends to every aspect of the RACI matrix creating a cohesive framework that fosters clarity and accountability.

Leveraging technologies and methodologies, they harmonised disparate processes, and reduced redundancy across ROSHN. The strength of RICP is its ability to bridge the gap between standardisation and innovation. ROSHN not only met but exceeded the stated aims, establishing a new benchmark for the RICP RACI framework within ROSHN. This project serves as a transformative force, ensuring not only adherence to standards but a streamlined d development cycle that propels its portfolio towards sustained success. In 2024, they added an additional capability to the project by enabling ROSHN GPT leveraging internal knowledge library and powered by Generative Pre-trained Transformer to support all employees.

Urban Landbank Using Aerial Survey and Artificial Intelligence

Khatib & Alami

Located in Dhofar Governorate in Oman, the project aims to create a digital database of the area's buildings, roads, fences, and utilities above ground level. The purpose of this is to assist the Ministry of Housing in making proper land plans and generating accurate site plans and deeds. Due to social constraints and the difficult topography of the area, the project owner required a solution that didn't involve a traditional field survey.

The project covers a large area of 760 sqkm and has a two-year deadline. To meet these challenges, Khatib & Alami devised an innovative solution, which involves an aerial survey using aircraft and Artificial Intelligence to detect footprints and roads. The project was completed within 16 months with minimal human intervention (around 10 staff - 2 full-time), nine days of flight capturing, and resulted in a GIS database of buildings/fences with 10 cm accuracy.
